Spilling the Beans

When we first found out about the baby, way back in January, we immediately told 3 people. My sister, Taneisha, my cousin, Ashley and Alex's brother, John. They were sworn to secrecy! And, they all did a great job of keeping the news to themselves.

After our ultrasound this past Wednesday, we planned to tell our folks. We were already planning to go to Akron/Cleveland since Alex and his dad were planning to watch a basketball tournament...something they do together every year.

So, we told my aunt (who is really like a mother to me), Alex's mom and dad. In addition, we sent a few texts out to friends. Most reactions were very happy and excited! I think some were...indifferent. I don't know if that's the right word. Maybe it seemed that way due to the shock of the news? Is it really shocking that we're having a baby? Not to me, but of course I'm not on the outside looking in. We never outwardly spoke to others about wanted children or when we'd start trying, aside from saying things like "when we have family..." We really didn't want advice regarding our decision about when to start our family though, which is why we have kept things quiet.

I thought that I would be more upset or offended if people didn't respond the way I wanted them to. Surprisingly, it didn't phase me one bit. I decided that my (our) happiness about this pregnancy could/should/would *not* depend on some person's reaction to our news.

We're so excited to bring this little person into this world. I figure people will either come around to the idea...or they won't. Their choice. The baby'll be here in September regardless :)

XoXo,
Tosha
