So...I'm pregnant!
I set up an appt last Wednesday, Jan 25th with my doctor. This appointment was, originally, unrelated to my pregnancy. Upon arriving at the Dr.'s office, I did tell the nurse that I recently found out that I'm pregnant. I spoke to my Ob/Gyn and she let me know, according to my LMP, I was exactly 5 weeks along. Generally, they do the dating ultrasound at 6 weeks. She explained that she wanted to take some blood to check my hCg (pregnancy hormone) and progesterone levels. She was concerned that I was possibly farther along than I thought or not as far along as I thought. She said it was just a precaution. She said, as soon as my hCg levels were above 2,000, I could come in for a dating ultrasound. Apparently, before that, nothing will show up on the screen.
So, I had my blood drawn and the nurse said the results would be ready the following morning. I received a call around 10:30 am. I was informed that my hCg levels were around 1,125 (which was pretty much right on par with 5 weeks) and that my progesterone was at 11. The nurse told me not be concerned, but I couldn't help it! I know that higher than 15 is ideal to sustain a pregnancy (thanks Google!) and most doctors prefer levels to be in the 20s. So, I'm going back in for more blood work on Monday at 9 am.
I'm really hoping for high numbers! I'm fully prepared to be placed on progesterone supplements for the remainder of the first trimester. I'm doing my best to stay positive and some days are better than others. Thankfully, Alex has nerves of steel! He's done a fantastic job of keeping grounded and positive.
Fingers and toes crossed that this is our super sticky baby!
XoXo,
Tosha
